hey there, Daniel here. I’m excited to share this guest post from our buddy Hannah - she just joined the LAiC team. Below is a bit of her perspective on atwater - all personally curated by her. Hope you enjoy!
Heading east on the Hyperion/Glendale Blvd Bridge, it feels like the clouds part and the sun shines on cute Atwater Village. At ~4ish blocks the small walkable stretch of Glendale Blvd is truly quality over quantity.
Sunday-ing
My recommendation for a good Sunday-day is to hit the farmers market, check out your new fav shoppy shops, and take your goods to picnic at Fern Dell or Silverlake Reservoir nearby. What Atwater lacks in a green space of its own, it certainly makes up for with these gems::::
Picnic worthy
Wine + Eggs, renowned pantry goods and natty wine purveyor is the perfect complement to your weekly farmers market haul
Make a necessary cookie pilgrimage to Proof Bakery. Their full cases are a feast for the eyes and you can find both sweet & savory treats. Practice your secure attachment style because their grab & go baguette sandwiches rotate based on seasonality. Tg they are all delicious. Super cool that they are also worker-owned (more on that here!).
Things + stuff
If you don’t like your fit find a new one you can change right into at Dresscue. (Anyone else or just me?) You can feel good about your treat-to-self because you contributed to sustainable fashion and your inimitable wardrobe with cool pieces you ~thrifted.
Runway Boutique offers a win-win - helping cool brands sell their overstock to customers who like cute stuff at discounted prices (see also offe.market in Echo Park. Obsessed with these business models!!)
Racketdoctor supports every tennis enthusiast’s needs and I’m very much on board with their Guy-Fieri adjacent merch.
Moodboard IRL
Modern Merchant has the4 coolest things!!! (also has a location in Santa Monica!)
deKor, lovingly recognized as “dekor with a k” must be noted not only because I work there but also because the space is cool and inspiring. Go take your picture in the fireplace room and talk about how it used to be a bird store and a movie theater
If frequenting Atwater for an after-work or evening hang::
Imbibe
Baby Battista is a vibey little wine bar in the basement of nico’s wine shop, check their calendar for open nics, comedy shows, vinyl nights and live jazz.
Club Teegee is an iconic disco ball-adorned anchor to the neighborhood. They have fun DJs and good vibes!
Kava Kulture because we love a nighttime hang option with a menu to ~chill.
Dinner spots
Spina is a great live kitchen-focused for intimate catch ups, fresh pasta, and vino al fresco
Gorgeous beautiful Dune has your back for the necessary night out fries order but does not have your back with somewhere to eat it so bring it over to Teegee and enjoy at one of their big leather booths.
A few minutes drive on Casitas Ave is Momed with a heavy-hitting shareable menu and a pretty/romantic patio.
Designer inside look:
Casitas Ave is also home to some absolutely stunning furniture design studios like Kalon Studios, WakaWaka, and Estudio Persona.
Though the studios are not open to the public on the regular, look out for all the fun activations in Atwater on Sunday June 23 for LA DESIGN WEEKEND, a neighborhood-centric festival so you can peep inside their creative spaces.
If you're into history Eric Brightwell goes in depth on Atwater's roots here.
