We launched LA in Common in September 2023. I want to take you through a quick timeline of our pivots in the last 8 months:
September 2023 - Launch as an LA-based community events IG profile
October 2023 - PIVOT - Become a restaurant recommendation platform and food influencer
January 2024 - PIVOT - Become a high price dinner ticket platform
February 2024 - PIVOT - Become a foodie social experience creator
March 2024 - PIVOT - Become a local neighborhood dinner events platform
April 2024 - PIVOT - Start to put on speed dating events
May 2024 - PIVOT - *Stay tuned*
The last eight months have been nothing short of classic, early stage company gymnastics. Can’t tell you how many tears I’ve shed, mentors and seasoned business vets I’ve talked to, and ideas I’ve run through. I’ve had some of the lowest emotional periods of my life working on this thing. But I’ve never felt so fulfilled.
I have this undying conviction that this space is where I need to be. I want to catalyze change by helping you better connect personally, professionally, and (this feels weird to say out loud) romantically.
While we’re still figuring things out, here are a few highlights:
Increased revenue 50%+ MoM
Hired somebody
120+ new friendships formed from our events (i.e. you hung out IRL after our event)
Formed an incredible community of over 20 Neighborhood Guides who want to help us grow LA in Common
We’re in the middle of our next pivot and I’m pretty excited about where we’re headed.
But before I unpack that, I need to address the elephant in the room. If you’ve been to one of our events, chances are a few things are true of you:
You’ve met a few new people
You’ve exchanged contact/IG info with somebody
You’ve hung out with a few people IRL post-event
But with all this in mind you’ve probably wondered, “what’s next?”. You go to a dinner, speed dating event, or workshop and you’re like “how do we continue the fun?”
And tbh, we’re asking the same thing.
And this is where I’ll stop for now.
Stay tuned for next week’s newsletter for updates on where we’re heading. For now, I would like two things from you and feel free to reply directly to this email:
Tell me what you think LA in Common does well and not so well. And be brutally honest with me, please. I promise I’ll read and reply to every response.
Give me your best guess for what’s next for LA in Common. Winner gets a chicken dinner and a hug (can trade the hug in for a cheesy congrats letter from Walgreens).
