we ran a speed friending event, here's how it went
and also what's coming up + a special discount for you
I’m going to be honest. The title “Speed Friending” sounded kind of lame when Carissa, my co-founder, and I came up with the event (we’re still open to new names btw haha). But we had to admit the concept name was familiar and straight forward.
Anyway, 25 people understood the assignment and, before we knew it, we had a packed event.
The format was simple: meet new friends in your neighborhood by shuffling through people and do so in an intentional and thoughtful manner.
We had some hiccups and we now know to implement a lot more structure to shuffling people. But we were able to facilitate an organic time of meeting new people, asking thoughtful questions, and create space for people to connect with people in their neighborhood (over wine, of course).
People lingered, sipped on wine, and took time to lean into conversations. This might have been our most engaging event yet.
Sunday’s event reminded me of the work we’re doing: hyper-localizing Los Angeles, a city that can sometimes feel too expansive and divided by traffic. We are human-forward, less concerned with what we should consume or take, but rather, how we can have real, human conversations.
We want to continue to carve out space for people to connect in their neighborhoods and we’re starting with these speed friending events, curated dinners, and co-working sessions. If you’re down to help, lmk by replying to this email. I’m starting to reach out to fellow community builders and people who love hosting events. I’ve already had over 50 people reach out so stay tuned for what’s to come!
I’m glad you’re here and I hope you continue on this journey with us to create more third spaces!
Cheers ya’ll,
Daniel
